Imperative mystery to solve Toss me the baton so I can get a swim on I’m trying to find my way through this swamp But that whirlpool is the gate Clouds in mind I wish that I could just leave Jump up Float away But gravity’s sucking at my feet Toss me the baton so I can dive down Dive down Go now I’ve grown my fins Twist round I swim We have forgotten we belong to each other We have forgotten we created each other We have forgotten, now we long for one another We have forgotten everything Well everyone talk Backward in thought Forward in time and everyone is so careless with their future And the tools that you use Often abuse You stand accused and you alone are just a little tiny human Tell me what can you do Tool of the state Blind and irate Drink and obey Wake up to screens that say that it’s okay But none of this is normal None of this is normal We’ve forgotten
2.
Cleo 03:27
Cleo, you watched me Muscle through all the Russians at the gate Cleo, you stopped me On the stairs to ask how I spell my name Oh Cleo You rode back with me To make sure I got home okay Late night tram I almost took your hand At every sideways glance Laughter left your face For our stiff goodbye embrace Cleo, you know me We chew our thumbs the same We chew our thumbs the same We chew our thumbs the same way

Chemical reaction unstable Hard to know How long we’ve got with that breach in the hull Beams of light Spill forth from massive fissures Fight or flight We’re going down Note the date and the time What kind of pre-roll are you giving me That was one beat I can forgive you If you retreat from me Mind in tow I know some people who can let it go Well la ti da Aren’t we all so grown Body leads Like something irrational This way comes And it’s handed down by a genetic code What kind of pre-roll are you giving me That was one beat I can forgive you If you retreat from me From me

Salt Dome 03:46
Every little send That I’ve been throwing grows Echoes around my body A million toes would never stand it My feet rogue under knees And every little send Circling all around Circling all around easy Every, every little Every little send Carried on the wind hand Every sound i make Concrete takes In the salt dome In the salt dome Little light inside My eyes receiving nothing But ears are full As the train outside
5.
Sad Delf 06:14
This is a quiet place on Fridays We tore it up Made your calls and your emails Yeah, that’s a big ol’ dog That I should try doin it different ‘Cause I can run I can hustle my bustle up Got pen in my pocket Got the check in my wallet The following starts at a clip Keep it all to yourself Keep it all to yourself And I cling to this bar spot Cling to this bar spot only because The pen is still moving So rapidly Rapidly Rant rampant The deeper the gaze Be lonely in days Pen in my pocket Ch-check in my wallet The deeper the gaze I’ll be lonely in days Pen in my pocket Ch-check in my wallet The deeper the gaze Be lonely in days Pen in my pocket Ch-check in my wallet

Gardener 05:17
They said of me Behold this anomaly Of dentistry Then seven teeth Swept up in a paper cup When i woke up My mother drove us back home Put me to bed All afternoon My head swelled up Oooh She gave me trees Fed me bananas With wheat germ Her warm hands Never leave me There’s nothing more Elemental Than sun above And mother love Of teeth and bone We will one day melt away To forest floor A forever gardener Tube top down Out in the yard
7.
Polaroid 04:46
Soon as you solve the riddle Champagne, confetti, balloons Summon your guardian angel on the wire Tap the code and we fly If you forget which way is up, child Play it in reverse Stars can shift their shape I heard Guess i’m ok with gettin’ haunted By the song That you left in my ear Let it hold this mark I feel It’s already there Blow on the polaroid Blow on the polaroid Blow on the polaroid
8.
Swing/Kick 03:22
I remember year 2 I fell in with you Didn’t have a clue Didn’t get the go We were in my room Shut the door Started to swoon and We were so young We were so young We were so young We did things we’d never done done done Floated the river to set fire Hung around with rodents in the sun Had fun I remember what it looked like and how it felt I remember what you looked like and how ya felt Oooh, oooh Oooh, oooh I remember Philadelphia Mummers drinking rum Bucket drums Walking in the park back to your apartment I was so young What a rush, things I’d never done You were making salsa, margaritas You were very sweet I was cold, words were said Walked out the door What for Hmm, I don’t remember anymore Oh, what for I don’t remember anymore Start fresh, forgive All those false starts and fake hymns Half thoughts clipped Before they could even settle behind my eyes The faster we move through our days The more we lose the deep gaze Lights out and heads down Like when we were so young When we were so young Looking back at that yarn spun Wasn’t it so much easier then When all we had to All we had to do was swing and kick And swing and kick Underdog, sailing up Letting go, I fly off I remember what it looked like and how it felt I remember what you looked like and how ya felt Oooh, oooh Oooh, oooh I remember what it looked like and how it felt I remember what you looked like and how ya felt Oooh, oooh Oooh, oooh I remember what it looked like and how it felt I remember what you looked like and how ya felt Oooh, oooh Oooh, oooh I remember what it looked like and how it felt I remember what you looked like and how ya felt Oooh, oooh Oooh, oooh

Beach Hawk 04:10
Tide of pure joy Spiraling so high I’m gonna climb that thermal to survey the land 5’ 10” is my wingspan I got no 5-year plan tho So what a gift to see what’s around the bend My hunger grows and life has shown me There will always be some carrion (Bup-bup-BAH!) What’s left behind Impatient tho I move to close in Prefer that fresh mammalian Like a bird of prey watching from the winds above I wait in silence Hunt and track your every move I dive down Pluck you up from the snow Got that male side too Recognize the king in me Be whole in body Whole in spirit Whole in mind And there is no such thing as control Like a bird Amalgamate a different life I got one story and i’m sticking to it Just a hint of that scent and now I fantasize You better fetishize Your stethoscopic eyes look away Away You can’t look away But why would you want to I endeavor forever to Never never look away Never never look away It’s a noxious odor Oh yeah, it’s an ancient order And it resembles something you assembled But you were not part of the plan It’s gonna follow you for life Like a.. Like a bird of prey watching from the winds above I wait in silence Hunt and track your every move I dive down Pluck you up from the snow Got that male side too Better recognize the king in me Be whole in body Whole in spirit Whole in mind And there is no such thing as control Like a bird

about

Champagne Confetti is a 12-piece progressive chamber ensemble based in Minneapolis, MN. The project is a triangulation of original music created by Aby Wolf in collaboration with songwriter/composers Grant Cutler and Eric Mayson, performed by a stellar crew of musicians with a wide range of musical influences and experience. Champagne Confetti's unique instrumentation features strings, percussion, and vocal harmonies: it is a love letter written in spacious neo-minimalism, chamber music, jazz, electro pop, and theater-framed R&B and soul, resulting in a fresh, inimitable sound that leaps from rowdy to reverent with ease and earnest.

The project began with collaborators Aby Wolf and Grant Cutler: following two acclaimed electro pop releases (2013 LP Wolf Lords and 2016 EP Call the Rocks), the duo sought to expand their shared sonic palette by arranging a batch of new, experimental electronic demos for live players. After gathering several of the Twin Cities’ best artists for a fruitful “proof-of-concept” studio session in 2017, Wolf received support from the Minnesota State Arts Board to further develop the project with collaborator Eric Mayson, and Aby and Eric fleshed out the group’s songbook with several new works-in-progress from their own burgeoning trove of duo explorations.

The group honed its sound and collaborative creative process over several rounds of community engagement residencies and tours across the state of Minnesota (including visits to Ely, Duluth, Brainerd, Grand Rapids, Detroit Lakes, Red Wing, Fairmont, and New York Mills), resulting in a circle of fast friends whose unspoken aim in every performance is to work together with love and generosity for the music and for each other.

Champagne Confetti celebrated its Minneapolis debut with a performance at The Parkway Theater on April 13, 2019 with acclaimed chamber group NOW Ensemble. The album was recorded in August 2021 at Pachyderm Studios in Cannon Falls, MN.

“Since the project’s inception, Champagne Confetti has provided an opportunity to expand creatively, to build community, and to learn from each other. The musicians in this group come from incredibly varied corners of the Twin Cities music scene, and all of those influences inform our sound and our process. It’s not just ‘more is more’ in this circle - it’s ‘all is more, and all is necessary.’”
- Aby Wolf, co-founder/ensemble leader

"‘Supergroup’ isn't a word to throw around lightly, but when your member list starts with Aby Wolf and Eric Mayson...well, the shoe fits.”
- Minnesota Public Radio, The Current
